Arrival in Kolkata

This morning we woke up still on the train. It eventually pulled in to Kolkata train station at 10 past 12pm. As soon as we stepped out of Kolkata train station we were hit by the fact that it is so much hotter and busier. We caught taxis to the Fairlawn Hotel and were greeted by drinks and our rooms ready-made.

Then we were presented with a well-needed lunch which was scrumptious. For the rest of the day we are relaxing and un-packing. This evening, James Stevens will come to the hotel to welcome us before our visit to Udayan tomorrow.

Glad you got to Kolkata safely! Dont get too attached to the hot weather as it is freezing here!!

Glad to hear you got to Kolkata eventually! Hope your tummy is feeling better, Amy, and that the heat isn’t too overpowering. I was back to teaching as normal again today at St. Joan’s, but the snow days had erased all memory of their music timetables from the students’ minds and I spent all day trailing after them in the rain. (It has poured down relentlessly all day and is still raining now at 5.15pm!). It must be great to be within a whisker of Udayan. I’m sure the children will be excited about your imminent arrival. I’m very pleased the long train journey is behind you and I am looking forward to your report on Udayan. Hopefully you can all relax a little now. I’m really enjoying the photos, Em, especially the one of you balancing on Amy’s hand.

Bet the train was a lovely experience!!!

The diary to date has been fantastic so congrats to you all especially Amy and Emma for dealing with the back end :)

It sounds like you all are having an amazing time and even more so now you are at Udayan, a mystery place until probably an hour ago. The children are just adorable! It inspires you to keep raising more for Udayan!

Glad to hear that you made it there safely. Looks as though you are having a great time. Just remeber that you will never forgot what you see, the experiance, the people and the culture. It will open up a whole new world for you and your friends. Take plenty of pictures so you can show me and Ali when you eventually arrive in Australia sometime. well….you look like you are having a fantastic time – I cannot wait to see your first trip to Udayan! Liked the comments about the rickshaws – I have to agree that the highway code does not apply – similiar to the tuk tuks in Thailand I’m afraid, but it’s all part of the ride. Jimmy and I are near Krabi now only 5 more nights in Thailand before Malaysia.
